Cornwall Mining Alliance (CMA) member, Cornish Lithium Ltd is helping the Julian Baring Scholarship Fund to organise a sponsored walk of Cornwall’s mining landscape on the 13th – 15th September 2018. The Julian Baring Scholarship is a UK registered charity, set up to assist deserving African individuals who wish to pursue a career in the mining industry.  The fundraising walks will be attended by mining experts and feature some iconic and beautiful sites, as well as a trip underground at South Crofty Mine, and all CMA members are invited along for all or as much of it as they can make. Sponsorship is not required to take part in the walks, but donations to the Fund would be gratefully received.

The Julian Baring Scholarship Fund has undertaken several fundraising events since its inception in 2000. Some of these have involved the trustees and friends of the Scholarship putting their physical fitness to the test.  This year, with the help of Cornish Lithium Ltd, over 3 days the team are going to be walking to a number of the old tin mines in Cornwall along the old tramways and coastal paths that cover the county made famous in the TV series of Poldark.

Strongbow Exploration Inc, who is reviving the famous South Crofty Mine, will also host a visit to their operations on 13th September.

A programme for the three days is as follows:

Thursday 13th September:

  • In the morning there is an opportunity for an underground tour at Strongbow Exploration’s South Crofty Mine. Numbers are limited, so please let us know if you are interested in this.
  • 2pm meet at Heartlands Museum before a walk around the Great Flat Lode (5.9 miles, more info here) one of Cornwall’s most iconic mining landscapes.
  • Return to Falmouth after walk
  • Dinner sponsored by Cornish Lithium in the evening at the St Michael’s Hotel. If you are interested in attending please let us know as numbers are again limited.

We would love to have as many people as possible involved, so if you are able to join us for all or just part of the walk, please let us know by emailing julianbaringscholarshipfund@gmail.com. Please note that you do not have to sponsor to join the walk.
