Ché Osmond is a freelance geologist and a key member of the CMA. The CMA spoke to Ché about the work he is involved with, in the UK and overseas, and was interested to find out more about two recent projects he has worked on.
Ché was brought in to provide exploration advice, training and supervision of a preliminary diamond core drilling programme for the Enugu Project in Nigeria. This project is the first venture by Millhouse Engineering & Construction (Millhouse) and the Nigerian Ministry of Power. Millhouse is an American based service and architecture firm specialising in civil, construction, electrical, energy, mechanical, and structural engineering services. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with Nigeria and its Ministry of Power to create energy from coal. The Enugu Project is a strategic first venture into a vertically integrated coal to power plant. It was clear that the proposed drilling programme was too widespread and whilst on-site Ché was able to provide advice to the Client, refocus efforts and better tailor the programme to their needs. Although data was limited Ché was also able to instigate some hand excavated pits to expose shallow coal seams to further support the drilling and provide larger samples for subsequent sampling.
In the UK, Ché recently acted as Site Agent on behalf of Quantum Geotechnical to supervise the installation of vertical steel piles, a reinforced concrete slab to support the road and the installation of rock bolts and steel mesh at a prime location in Newquay, Cornwall. As site supervisor his primary role was ensure a safe and efficient site operation, completed to design and budget, and within a tight timeframe. The site location was narrow and restrictive, above a 20m cliff facing the sea, and directly adjacent to a glass fronted dining room of a hotel, so the entire operation was very exposed.
Ché has extensive knowledge of working on challenging sites in the UK and overseas. He has a broad background in geological assignments ranging from geotechnical site investigation through to mineral exploration and mining project feasibility studies. This diversity of experience enables Ché to be adaptable and resilient to the changing market and able to adopt a holistic approach to client requests. Find out more and contact Ché.
