The Shared Prosperity Fund Geo-Resources Strategic Sector Strengthening project, a collaboration between Cornwall Mining Alliance, Cornish Chamber of Mines and Minerals, and University of Exeter is well underway. The project aims to enable the growth and self-sustainability of the Cornwall Mining Alliance and strengthen the Geo-Resources Sector in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.  

Project updates: 

  • Launch of the Geo-Resources Sector Needs Analysis. Survey results are critical to determine how the project funding will be spent to support Geo-Resources businesses in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. They will also shape a roadmap for the Geo-Resources Cluster Body beyond March 2025. Complete the survey here. 
  • Working Groups for ‘Voice’, ‘Business Development’ and ‘Data, Information, Innovation’ are established and running fortnightly. These consist of representatives from across 32 organisations. See here Working Group composition.  
  • Monthly Steering Group Committee. See here overview of Steering Group meeting 29th April 2024.
  • The project supported 8 organisations to attend PDAC 2024 and 3 to the Mine Water Energy Symposium 2024 
  • Hosted event in collaboration with Department of Business & Trade, which welcomed a delegation of ministries and businesses from Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Uzbekistan and Turkey as well as representatives from Cornish Lithium, Imerys, Geothermal Engineering Ltd, Wardell Armstrong International, and Global Mine Design 
  • Issued tenders: Project Evaluation, Sector Needs Assessment, Strategic Environmental Assessment (see here link to tender information). 
  • Tenders in preparation: International Cluster Review, Cluster Value Add Feasibility, IT Services 
  • Action plan for Information Platform presented to Working Groups and Steering Group. 
  • LinkedIn profile to be created for Cornwall Mining Alliance.
