An independent metallurgical test facility in Cornwall has cemented itself as the leading facility in Europe, and their response to COVID - 19 is no exception.
Wardell Armstrong’s test facilities caters to Clients worldwide delivering specialised services to the mining industry. The Wardell Armstrong name is known globally as a leading authority on metallurgical testwork, flowsheet development and product optimisation as well as maximising economic recovery.
Whilst initial thoughts would suggest a worldwide pandemic would cause severe business interruption, rapid review of lab practices and changes to operations have allowed the Cornish company to flourish.
Recent purchase of magnetic separators, alongside leading equipment for comminution and flotation test work has only added to the success of the team.
In close contact with health and safety teams, changes came swiftly to implement shift systems, reducing on-site staffing levels ensuring COVID distancing and utilising all daylight hours for operation instead of continuing on the previous operational structure. The team has been able to ensure a seamless transition for existing testwork programmes and in fact has shown significantly improved productivity.
As one of the few facilities able to adapt to the ‘new normal’ Wardells has seen a significant increase in new Clients and contracts and is now in the position of looking to expand, recruiting new staff in order to boost the highly experienced team.
